New Orleans Fire Department
In 1829 a
group of men joined to together to fight fires. These volunteers went
under the name of the Firemen's Charitable Association, the (FCA), a
title it was to keep for 62 years. In 1891, when the paid Fire
Department became a reality, the title was officially changed to the New
Orleans Fire Department, (NOFD).

The 1840's-era Vigilant No. 3
fire house at North Galvez Street and Esplanade Avenue.
These three photographs were taken during the demolition in
the 1950's to build a new fire house which stands abandoned
today.

Steam
Fire Engine at the New Orleans
Fire Department Museum and Educational Center.
This steam fire engine was built by the Ahrens Fire Engine
company of Cincinnati, Ohio in 1896 for the City Of New
Orleans.
